The Southern California Delegate Conference includes all congregations of the Mountain View, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Las Vegas Circuits.

Member congregations of each circuit are listed in the links to the left.

This conference meets once every two years prior to the WELS synod convention.

8:30 AM         Registration, refreshments and gathering of dues ($5.00 per congregation)

9:00 AM         Communion Service: Liturgist: Allen Beyersdorf; Preacher: John Moll

9:50 AM         Call to order: Welcome:  Agenda adopted: Minutes: May 2004 Minutes and Treasurer’s report by Pastor Moll approved.

10:00 AM       District President’s Report, presented by President Paul Janke

11:00 AM       Preview of The Report to the Twelve Districts
            Home Missions-written report presented, Paul Schwan
            World Missions-written report presented by Lynn Wiedmann
            Synod Schools-written report presented by Rich Kogler
            Synod Finances was the topic of the day, discussed in relation with the different areas of ministry.

Reports & Updates

12:45 PM       Good Shepherd Bible Camp Report: by Randy Buth and Doug Found: Financial update, registration update, and the new old location for camp this year.

1:20 PM         “Is WELS Financially on the Right Path?” presentation and discussion led by Hermann John.
Discussion focused on funding “core” or “non-core” ministries for the synod. Attached was an outline for a simple stewardship presentation.

2:00 PM         Circuit Report: San Diego Circuit

2:05 PM         Hispanic Ministry Update:

2:10 PM         Northwestern Publishing House: by Pastor Beyersdorf.

2:15 PM         California Lutheran High School

2:20 PM         Memorial on the structure and scheduling of the SoCal Delegate Conference
            Memorial brought to the floor as printed. Seconded. Discussion followed. Defeated as presented.
Resolutions of the original memorial were then considered individually.
            1. Motion made to hold the SoCal Delegate Conference in the odd numbered year, the years of the Synod in Convention. Motion seconded. Discussion followed. Passed.
            2. Motion made to hold the SoCal Delegate Conference at the end of the second full week of June. Motion seconded. Discussion followed. Motion changed to the date of the third weekend in June (after CLHS graduation), similar to the District in Convention schedule in the even numbered years. Passed.
            3. Motion made to hold the SoCal Delegate Conference for a full day and a half (a full day on Friday and a half a day on Saturday). Motion seconded. Discussion followed. Passed.
            4. Motion made that the SoCal Delegate Conference hold elections with regular nominations of two men for conference chairman and 2 men for conference secretary/treasurer with written ballots to decide who will hold these positions for the next such conference. Motion seconded. Discussion followed. Passed.
            5. Motion made that the SoCal Delegate Conference receive nominations from the floor for the location of the next conference with votes from the floor to decide the location of the next such conference. Motion seconded. Discussion followed. Passed.
            6. Motion made to choose a steering committee for the SoCal Delegate Conference to enter into discussion with the Northern California Conference to address the topic of meeting together for such conferences. Motion seconded. Rider attached that the officers of the conference not be on steering committee. Discussion followed. Passed. Members of steering committee: Aaron Glaeske, Brian Doebler, Chris Schroeder,

Other Business

2:45 PM         Closing Matters: Motion made, seconded and passed to accept the invitation of Living Word, Mission Viejo, to be host for our next conference on June 15-16, 2007. Motion made, seconded, discussed, and withdrawn to hold elections for circuit pastors at our delegate conferences for two year terms, as per synod constitution. Motion made, seconded, and passed to designate our offering of $239 to CLHS. Motion made, seconded and passed to thank Living Word, Mission Viejo, for hosting this conference and the ladies of Living Word for their service in our noon meal. Motion made, seconded and passed to adjourn our 2005 SoCal Delegate Conference.
