This collection of essays includes a biography of Kurt Eggert, an overview of the development of Christian Worship: a Lutheran Hymnal, and an interesting essay by Prof. Tiefel on the development of worship views in the WELS, among other writings.  266 pages.  Published by NPH, 2001.

Carl Schalk, the greatest Lutheran composer of our times, offers his observations on worship in this series of short articles.  This is an interesting read on some of the worship issues we all face.  95 pages.  Published by MorningStar, 1998.

Grime, Paul and Dean Nadasdy, ed.  Liturgical Preaching:  Contemporary Essays.

Collection of essays on preaching by various LCMS writers..  256 pages. Published by CPH, 2001.

 

Schalk, Carl.  Luther on Music:  Paradigms of Praise.

This little booklet gives an overview of Luther’s experience and teaching about music, especially as it is used in the church.  Schalk takes Luther’s principles for worship and applies them as a paradigm for our Lutheran worship today.  70 pages.  Published by CPH, 1988.

 

Maschke, Timothy.  Gathered Guests.

A textbook on worship written for lay people by a professor at Concordia, Mequon.  Gives an overview of the history of Christian worship, as well as explanations of the Lutheran liturgy, Church Year, clergy vestments, church architecture, and use of music, art and symbolism.  675 pages.  Published by CPH, 2003.
