The Board for Parish Services was created to assist congregations in various areas of service.  It's goal is to provide the church with resources, training, and personal assistance for the purpose of strengthening, equipping, and encouraging God's people.

The Board for Parish Services is made up of a number of Commissions and Committees.  Each commission has its own ministry focus and is responsible for producing and implementing resources that will assist the local congregation in carrying out its work.

Notes from Pastor Jonathan Stern, District Board Chairman:

 June 2006

Just recently I became familiar with the phrase, “Total Market Value.”  It’s a term which is used in the investment arena to describe the benefits one receives from the over-all investment, both the principle and interest.  For years our congregation has maintained a Scholarship Fund where “interest only”  has been used to help students with their Christian education.  The “Total Market Value” will enable us to help them even more.

Your District Board for Parish Services doesn’t exist to help congregations in  money matters.  In the past years our Synod’s BPS has undergone serious cutbacks – up to 40%- in all of its six divisions.  The cutbacks have trickled down to the District level.   My chairman budget has been reduced by 100%.  Many of our district coordinators no longer have  a budget, but must rely on funds from their administrator and/or seminars.  However, your BPS still is able to offer “Total Market Value” to our congregations.   We still exist to provide our congregations with encouragement in these six areas of ministry:  Adult Discipleship, Youth Discipleship, Parish Schools, Special Ministry,  Worship and Evangelism.  We’re able to offer resources, training and personal assistance to strengthen, equip and encourage God’s people.   We consider it a privilege to lend our counsel and aid in helping our congregations “proclaim peace through Jesus.”

I want to express our thanks to Mr. Steven “Skip” Bremer for his years of faithful service as the District coordinator for our Parish Schools.  He has done a fine job and we will miss him.  We wish him God’s speed and every blessing as he carries out his new calling as Principal/Teacher at St. Paul, Muskego, WI.  At this convention President Janke will appoint someone to fill out his term, which expires in 2010.

I also want to express our thanks to our District Praesidium.  For years now they have offered us an arena at these conventions to put on workshops.   While BPS is not a part of our convention business, the presidium has given us this opportunity to provide the delegates with a sample of the “Total Market Value” of  BPS.   Whether or not we will continue this format in the coming years will again depend on budget matters.
